Lucy Takes A Break From The Office In The City And Gives The Passers By An Eyeful - 2006
The office lunch break is one of the great underrated moments of the day.
For most people, it is a sandwich, a coffee, and forty five minutes of staring at a phone. For a certain kind of woman, it is something else entirely. It is a chance to step out of the suit, out of the meeting rooms, out of the spreadsheets, and remember what it feels like to be a person again. To walk through a city at midday with nobody expecting anything from you.
Lucy is that kind of woman. She works in an office in the middle of a busy city. Every day, at the same sort of hour, she takes the same sort of break. Only hers looks a little different. She finds a spot on a busy pavement, and for a few minutes, she becomes the most interesting thing on the street.
What makes this set work so well is the contrast. On one side, the backdrop of an ordinary working city. People in shirtsleeves, taxis, sandwich shops, couriers on bikes. On the other side, a girl who has decided that her lunch hour is going to be spent giving everyone nearby a view they were not expecting.
The office girl thing is a genre of its own. There is something about a woman who could be the person sitting at the desk next to yours, except that she is out on the pavement doing something that no HR department would ever approve. Everyone who walks past has a small story in their head about what they think they just saw, and none of them will ever know the truth.
Real life images of real life women wearing and flashing nylons in public locations. Some of the best sets are just ordinary people doing extraordinary things in ordinary places.
